June 15, CocoCay, Bahamas

This morning we arrived at CocoCay. It is the private island that Celebrity and Royal Carribian share. The dock holds 2 big cruise ships. There is a water park but that is an extra fee as well as other things like going on jet skis, snorkel boats and other things. It was a nice island with a large swimming pool in the middle of the island, several beaches with lots of chairs and umbrellas. They have a large place with a buffet lunch, included. Basic drinks and you can use your drinks package on the island (which we don’t have as we don’t drink much and if we want a drink, we just pay for each one).
The weather is so so. The sun comes and goes. We went to a beach (there is a tram that goes up and down the island so we didn’t have to walk) and found 2 nice chairs under an umbrella and as we relaxed for a few minutes, it started to pour. It was fun to just sit there out of the rain, the families in the water just stayed there. We decided to wait until after lunch to go swimming after the rain stopped as we were still dry. We ate a good lunch, salads, bar-b-que hamberger (David), chicken (Jackie) with fresh fruit. We went over to a different beach and I started swimming, David came in after a while. Then the thunder started and got closer so the life guards closed all of the swimming, when it cleared but the thunder started again so we took the tram back to the ship. We didn’t take our snorkel stuff and we were glad we didn’t as there was nothing to see. Sand and then grass growing on the sand…. Many people were snorkeling there but that is because the snorkel rental place is right there.
Back on the ship I went to the pool as I was already in my suit and David went to the room. It was fun to be in a big pool with lots of people standing in the pool and laying beside it. It was a mellow party atmosphere.
We ate at a shared table for 10. I never talked to the ones from the other end of the table but David did, 3 were from the traveling solo group. The 2 couples across from me take lots of cruises, usually the 7 day from Miami as they win them in the casino. They all enjoy gambling and talk a lot about it. They said they don’t put much money in to win but I have my doubts. So different from the people we usually met who talk about cruises and travel they have done as well as lots of different topics. They just talked about gambling and winning but they were nice of course. There are 4 restaurants on this ship instead of 1 or 2 main dining rooms. Of course there is a buffet and the speciality restaurants that you pay extra for along with some small places to eat. We decided to try all 4 main dining rooms this week.
Sunday night we saw a very funny comedian in the theatre and Monday we saw a ventriloquist who was mainly a comedian. Also very good.
No pictures today as all were taken by the underwater camera.
